Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met Iraqi minister of municipalities and public work Adil Muheydar Razi Al-Maliki.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq are at high level now, Mammadyarov said at the meeting. He also expressed confidence that Maliki's visit to the country will contribute to the development of these relations, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend on Wednesday.
The Iraqi Minister congratulated Mammadyarov on Azerbaijan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Maliki said that the Azerbaijani-Iraqi intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation will contribute to the development of relations in various fields between the two countries. In this regard, Maliki stressed the importance of opening the Azerbaijani embassy in Iraq.
Mammadyarov emphasized the importance of expanding the legal base for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iraq. "This will contribute to strengthening activity of the two countries` businessmen," he added.
Mammadyarov said that the Azerbaijani Parliament had already made a decision on opening of the country's embassy in Iraq.
