Political parties are conducting active campaigns for the municipal elections to be held in Azerbaijan on November 30, Mazahir Panakhov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) told a press conference on Tuesday.

Candidates from nine political parties - Yeni Azerbaijan Party, Ana Veten Party, Social Prosperity Party, Civil Solidarity Party, Popular Front of Integrated Azerbaijan, Great Creation Parties, Democratic Reforms Party, and Civil Unity Party, will run for the elections.

"International practice shows that, as compared to presidential and parliamentary elections, political parties are usually not terribly interested in municipal elections. However, more than a half of the candidates to the current municipal elections are representatives of political parties, an indication of interest in the campaign," Mr Panakhov noted. He added that 709 independent candidates will also run for election.

Over 1550 candidates for 464 vacant seats were registered in 330 municipalities. About 9923 people were registered as observers. About 1,155,864 voters will take part in the elections.
