It is regrettable that the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her address connected to the International Human Rights Day responded negatively about our country, which is far from objectivity, Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli said at a press briefing.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948, and since then December 10 is celebrated as International Human Rights Day. The president or the secretary of state of U.S. issues an appeal in this regard.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave Azerbaijan as one of the negative examples in her statement connected to International Human Rights Day on December 9, 2011.

Gurbanli noted that, such statements of the U.S. government or the representatives of other international organizations aren't for the protection of human rights, but have completely different intentions.

"Azerbaijan has ratified the Declaration of Human Rights. Azerbaijan based on the principles of human rights which reflect the provisions of the Universal Declaration, in adopting the Constitution. The country should be an example in this area in order to make claims. The U.S. is not an example in this area. Because the U.S. hasn't yet ratified the Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 as an official document," Gurbanli said.

Gurbanli noted that the question arises how the country which hasn't adopted the document, which reflects the basic principles of human rights and freedoms can accuse other countries of violating human rights and freedoms?

"If the U.S. had accepted these documents, the mounted police would not have been thrown at the citizens who fight for social rights and hold shares in New York and there wouldn't be 600 people arrested for one day," Gurbanli said.

U.S. uses human rights and democracy as a mean to press on Azerbaijan. The goal is to put pressure on the independent foreign policy of Azerbaijan in the region, Gurbanli noted.

Gurbanli noted that it is not the opinion of the NAP, but his own point of view.
