Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.9 / Trend /
The French Senate will put up a bill criminalizing the denial of the so-called Armenian genocide on its agenda on January 23, TRT Haber TV reports.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that the predecessor of Turkey - Ottoman Empire had committed the 1915 "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia, and achieved recognition of the "Armenian Genocide" by the parliaments of several countries.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused French President Nicolas Sarkozy of seizing on the sensitive issue in order to win votes from France's small but influential Armenian community in this year's presidential and parliamentary elections.
