Ruling party: Opposition party head does not want to leave post
Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /
Playing a political game, Isa Gambar holds his post as the chairman of the opposition Musavat party. He does not want to leave the post, Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Siyavush Novruzov told media today.
"Etibar Mammadov could be an example for Gambar," he said. "He resigned from the post of chairman of the National Independence Party.
This problem was solved."
Novruzov added that there is only one way to solve the situation for the Congress to elect a new chairman.
"By discussing this issue, Gambar wants to extend his stay at the helm of the party," he said. "They say they will conduct the Congress after Arif Hajili is released or the head of the party is elected during Hajili's imprisonment."
The Musavat party meeting was held on Jan. 7. A decision was made to convene the Eighth Party Congress on March 3-4.
