Ruling Party: Azerbaijan needs more universities

Azerbaijan needs to increase its number of universities and work places, ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party (NAP) official Ali Ahmedov said on Friday.
Ahmedov noted that the population of Azerbaijan increased by two million people over the past 20 years, which means an annual increase of 100.000 people.
"If 30 percent of the population get higher education currently, then 25 percent of the population will be involved in higher education in the future according to the plans, and it does not meet modern requirements," Ahmedov said.
Ahmedov noted that an increase in the number of universities should be provided in the development strategy of Azerbaijan to 2020 in order to increase the number of graduating to 50 percent of the population. Ahmedov also said that in accordance with the annual population growth of about 100,000 people the number of work places should increase at
the same rate.
