PACE Chairman Jean-Claude Mignon has stated today that there is no reason for the Transdniestrian conflict to remain unresolved, he told media at a press conference held within the PACE spring session.

Council of Europe wants to contribute to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, PACE chairman said.

"The Council of Europe wants to contribute to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict," he said. "There is no reason for its existence. We want to help to find the ways to resolve this issue. The frozen conflict settlement is a priority issue for me. Many people
left the region because of the conflict. During the visit to Moldova, I have held very important meetings on this issue. I feel that there is a will and a desire to resolve this conflict. I think that if the parties want, it is possible to resolve this conflict. In this regard, I plan to meet with members of the Russian delegation represented in PACE."
