Eurovision Song Contest must not be used for political statements, Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikael Eriksson said.

"I do not think the Eurovision song contest should be used for making political statements," the ambassador told Trend while commenting on Eurovision Swedish participant Loreen's political statements in connection with Azerbaijan.

"Loreen arrived in Azerbaijan to sing," he said. "She is a free person and can do whatever she wants. I cannot answer for her. She has her own opinion."

Eurovision Swedish participant Loreen has made several statements on human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan.

The 57th Eurovision Song Contest is being held in the Baku Crystal Hall near State Flag Square. The first semi-final was held in Baku on May 22. The second semi-final will be held today. The grand final will be held on Saturday May 26.
