MP: Visit of U.S. Secretary of State is assessment of Azerbaijan’s authority

The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is, first and foremost, the assessment of political, economic and diplomatic authority of Azerbaijan. By this visit the United States assesses the influence of Azerbaijan in the world, member of the Political Council of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, MP Aydin Mirzazade told Trend on Monday.

The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is, first and foremost, the assessment of political, economic and diplomatic authority of Azerbaijan. By this visit the United States assesses the influence of Azerbaijan in the world, member of the Political Council of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, MP Aydin Mirzazade told Trend on Monday.

"Azerbaijan today is a very important partner for the United States. Relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S. are quite deep and multifaceted," he said.

Mirzazade believes that during the visit the sides will seriously discuss issues of deepening and prospects of Azerbaijan-US relations.

"We must bear in mind that from the country receiving loans, Azerbaijan has already transformed into the country, giving loans, and it is actively flowing into the world economy," the MP said.

Mirzazade said that during the visit the sides are also expected to discuss specific issues.

"For example, Azerbaijan's role in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, study of the position of Azerbaijan in connection with the processes going on in the Middle East can be discussed. It should be noted that during one month of its presidency in the UN Security Council Azerbaijan was able to turn current issues into discussion topics and at the same time was able to show itself as a political player," he said.

MP said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will undoubtedly become a major topic of discussions and the U.S. will express its attitude to this issue as a co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group and as a state with a principled stand on this issue.

"Recently there are some prospects for resolving the conflict, and, perhaps, that the U.S. will put forward new proposals in this regard, will attract Azerbaijan to discussion of its proposals on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he said.

The MP stressed the political significance of Clinton's visit.

"A day, when the visit of President of the United States to Azerbaijan will be possible is not far away," Mirzazade said.

Hillary Clinton will visit Azerbaijan on June 6.
