Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 1 / Trend M. Aliyev /

No political force must politicise the criminal case in connection with the video with former Azerbaijani University rector Elshad Abdullayev and MP Gular Ahmadova that was spread by online media outlets, Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said on Monday.

"Different expertise will be conducted due to the widespread video coverage," he said. "Yesterday employees of the General Prosecutor's Office were in the Azerbaijani International University, examining the building where the video survey was conducted. Following their conclusion, we will say how it was conducted, what equipment was used and its purpose."
Garalov said that Ahmadova rejected her deputy mandate to assist the investigation.

"First of all, Elshad Abdullayev by spreading this video must give testimony," he said. "Abdullayev and Ahmadova must face each other. There are a lot of issues on this criminal case, one of them being why Abdullayev has not spread this video for seven years."

He also said that Abdullayev spread this video after he left the country.

"If he is combating corruption he had to appeal to the investigating bodies and tell them about the proposition made to him during the period of his nomination for the post of MP," he said. "He appealed it was neither this period nor later."

Azerbaijani MP Gular Ahmadova sent a letter to Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov on Friday.

Gular Ahmadova rejects her deputy mandate and requests taking a decision in accordance with the rules defined by the legislation according to the fifth paragraph of Article 89 of the Azerbaijani Constitution.

According to the letter, the video with former Azerbaijani University rector Elshad Abdullayev and MP Gular Ahmadova was spread by online media outlets on September 25.
Abdullayev gave a large sum of money to Gular Ahmadova to become elected as a member of parliament. The Baku City Prosecutor's Office has filed a criminal case under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code in this regard. An investigation is underway.
