The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the decision of the United Nations (UN) to grant Palestine the status of an observer in the organization, the OIC press release stated on Friday.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the decision of the United Nations (UN) to grant Palestine the status of an observer in the organization, the OIC press release stated on Friday.

The OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu called this decision an important step towards the liberation of Palestine from Israeli occupation.

According to Ihsanoglu, this decision will give a boost to the peace talks between Palestine and Israel based on international resolutions and law.

On Thursday, the UN General Assembly granted Palestine the status of an observer at the UN. A resolution was approved by 138 of the 193 UN member states, nine states voted against with the rest abstaining from voting.
