The Georgian presidential administration appreciates the Defense Ministry's position on military pensioners.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met the new year in Afghanistan together with the Georgian servicemen on the base "Shukvani" where he voiced the initiative to double military pensions, as well as to assign lifetime pensions to the families of servicemen and policemen killed while perfuming their duty, spokesperson for the president Manana Manjgaladze said today.
"Today we have heard the position of the Defense Ministry in this regard," Manjgaladze said. "We are pleased that the relevant department has agreed with the President's initiative."
She added that the presidential administration on behalf of the president has prepared a relevant bill. The President will soon submit this legislative initiative to the government.
The President will also use his right and appeal to the Parliament with this legislative initiative. President Saakashvili also expresses full readiness to conduct appropriate consultations on the issue with the executive power, spokesperson said.
