Against the background of political unrest in Egypt, residents of Port Said province declared independence, Anadolu agency reported on Tuesday.

According to the agency, last night, tens of thousands took to the streets to protest the state of emergency in the province.

On Sunday evening, in connection with mass riots in several major Egyptian cities, Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi declared a state of emergency in three provinces - Port Said, Suez and Ismailia, and introduced curfew in administrative centers of these regions.

On Sunday, Mursi also appealed to all political forces in the country, urging them to take part in the dialogue ''to achieve stability and security.''

Despite the call for dialogue, the opposition in Egypt has refused to engage in dialogue with President Mursi.
Clashes continue in Egyptian cities between protesters and police guarding government offices and police stations.

The riots began on Friday, on the second anniversary of Egypt's 25 January Revolution, under already quite traditional for Egypt street slogans of "abrogation of Constitution" and other appeals.
