Patriot anti-aircraft missiles have been completely installed in Turkey's Kahramanmaras province, Anadolu agency said on Tuesday.

According to the agency, a test of the anti-aircraft missiles was completed on Monday evening.

The purpose of placing Patriot missiles is to protect NATO member Turkey against threats originating from the conflict in Syria.

Turkey turned to NATO in the second half of November with a request to provide it with Patriot systems to protect against a possible Syrian air attack.

Relations between Turkey and Syria worsened after an incident at the border on October 3, when artillery shells from neighboring Syria struck Akchakale in Turkey. Five people were killed and 11 injured.

In response to the incident, the Turkish Parliament provided the government with a one year mandate for cross-border military operations on October 4, as well as operations directed towards Syria.
