Israeli settlement activity in the occupied territories of Palestine is the main obstacle to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said addressing the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Cairo, CNN Turk TV channel reported on Thursday.

President Gul said that Israeli settlement activity is also a threat to the security of Palestine as an independent state.

In January, addressing the reporters at the UN headquarters, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki stated about the willingness of his people to apply to the International Criminal Court with a lawsuit against Israel if it does not abandon its plans to build settlements around Jerusalem.

Construction of houses on the site so called "E-1" causes particular concern of the international community. There is a danger that as a result of building of this zone two Palestinian enclaves - East Jerusalem and the West Bank will be severed from each other, which would put an end to the idea of establishing Palestinian state from territorial point of view.

Israel continues to ignore international community's calls to stop settlement activity. Moreover, following the establishment of the Fact-Finding Commission on Israeli settlements by the United Nations Human Rights Council, Israel ceased all contacts with this structure of the UN.
