Turkey has the right to take any possible steps to protect the security of its borders, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said when he was commenting on the increased tension on Turkish-Syrian border, Anadolu agency reported on Wednesday.

"The Syrian crisis threatens not only the security and stability of Syria itself, but also the stability of neighboring countries, including Turkey. Therefore, we must take necessary measures to protect our borders," Davutoglu said.

The minister also noted that Turkey supports the fast resolution of the Syrian crisis with the observance of rights of all ethnic and religious groups.

Earlier a statement of Turkish Armed Forces said that Turkey is ready at any time to answer to all fires and provocations from the Syrian side.

Fierce fighting between the Syrian branch of terrorist organization PKK and the militants of extremist organization Jabhat Al-Nusra was taking place on Turkish-Syrian border on July 18.

Clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for more than two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000 people. The Syrian authorities say they are opposed by well-armed militants.
