Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 1 / Trend, M. Aliyev /

Certain forces long for the deterioration of relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania, head of the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian working group on inter-parliamentary relations Fuad Muradov told Trend, when commenting on the recording of telephone conversation of pro-Armenian nature between the two Lithuanian diplomats posted online.

Azerbaijan and Lithuania have good relations both at the state and the parliamentary level.

"Unfortunately, in recent years some destructive forces have been trying to damage relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania. Obviously, these forces are under the influence of the Armenian lobby," Muradov said.

He ruefully added that this is the second such incident, and the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has not taken a strong position on any of them.

"The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry did not take a hard line, even when the issue of creating a Friendship Group with the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh in the Lithuanian Parliament was put on the agenda," the head of the working group said.

Muradov said that in accordance with the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania, the Foreign Ministry must respond adequately.

"I do not want to believe that the recordings on the Internet reflect reality. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan should demand an explanation by summoning the Lithuanian Ambassador. If it is a provocation, the Ambassador of Lithuania should openly express his position, as this record mentions specific names," Muradov said.

A recording of the telephone conversation between the two Lithuanian diplomats was posted on YouTube. Presumably, those speaking are the deputy director of the Department of Politics on the "Eastern Partnership" Zenonas Kumetaytis and Lithuanian diplomat in Hungary Renatas Yuske. The conversation took place on April 4 at 12:50.

During the conversation, the sides took a pro-Armenian position, expressing their thoughts on Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.

The recording is accompanied by English subtitles.
