Jamestown Foundation: European countries unaware of true potential of South Caucasus region

European countries are not fully informed on the true potential of the South Caucasus region and this diminishes its capabilities, but the U.S better understands the region’s significance, President of the Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard said on Monday while speaking at the second forum "South Caucasus in a Changing World" of the Association of Scientists for International Relations, organized by the Center of Strategic Studies under Azerbaijani President hosted by Baku.

European countries are not fully informed on the true potential of the South Caucasus region and this diminishes its capabilities, but the U.S better understands the region's significance, President of the Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard said on Monday while speaking at the second forum "South Caucasus in a Changing World" of the Association of Scientists for International Relations, organized by the Center of Strategic Studies under Azerbaijani President hosted by Baku.

Azerbaijan participated in promoting security in Afghanistan, Howard said.

According to him, today Azerbaijan is the economic power of South Caucasus, around 75 per cent of investments in this region come from Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan became the major economic power of the region. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is the gateway to Asia," the president of the Foundation noted.

He also talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"Conflicts became major blows to Azerbaijan and Georgia. The situation in Karabakh remains dangerous, the parties suffer loses each day, "Howard said.
