Azerbaijani CEC registered 10 presidential candidates (UPDATE)

The final number of officially registered candidates for the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan amounted to 10 people.

The final number of officially registered candidates for the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan amounted to 10 people.

At the meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission held under the chairmanship of CEC head Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu was registered as presidential candidate.

Thus, the verification of the signature lists of candidates submitted to the CEC is completed.
It should be noted that candidates began to submit their documents from April 20.
Around 22 people submitted documents to CEC for approving their candidacies.

The CEC refused to approve the candidacy of one of them, the candidacies of the rest were approved.
Around 14 candidates returned their signature lists and other required documents for registration of candidacies in CEC and other seven people haven't returned.

The chairman of New Azerbaijan party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of Umid party, Igbal Agazade, and a self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj, the chairman of the United Popular Front party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade and the National Revival party chairman Faraj Guliyev were registered as presidential candidates at previous meetings of CEC.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held October 9.

Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years.
