Deputy FM confirms Geneva joint action plan to be implemented from Jan 20

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday the Joint Plan of Action reached between Iran and P5+1 in Geneva on November 24 will be implemented as of January 20, IRNA reported.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday the Joint Plan of Action reached between Iran and P5+1 in Geneva on November 24 will be implemented as of January 20, IRNA reported.

Araqchi made the announcement in a press conference.

He said that January 20 account for the first step of the Joint Plan of Action and that the two parties will proceed with contacts to reach a comprehensive agreement in a short period of time to end the decade-long dispute.

Araqchi made it clear that Iran will continue with 20 percent uranium enrichment by the end of the day on January 19 and will suspend 20 percent enrichment on January 20 and the western governments will honor their commitments about easing the sanctions from January 20. Iran accepted to enrich uranium not beyond five percent.

Araqchi said that he and deputy EU foreign policy chief Helga Schmid and US under- secretary of state Wendy Sherman reached the final agreement on implementing the joint plan of action on January 9-10 and agreed that the respective governments declare the date January 20 to implement the action plan.

According to the action plan, the two parties will reciprocate the steps taken by one another in goodwill.
