Senior Iranian commander says that the country has added several defensive sites in the country's sensitive and strategic areas.
Head of Iranian Army's "Khatam-ol-Anbia" Air Defence Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said that the defensive sites have been established by the order and direct supervision of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who is also the Commander in Chief of the Iranian military forces, the country's Tasnim news agency reported on April 12.
"Iran will conduct a special defensive drill in the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21), which will be completely different from the earlier drills," Esmaili added.
The commander did not unveil more details on the issue.
Iranian military officials say that the country will unveil new air defense and radar systems on April 18, the Day of the country's Armed Forces.
Esmayeeli announced in early September that Iran is mulling the plans to develop its air defense systems based on the possible threats which might be posed to the country in the next five years.
Later in November, the Iranian Navy unveiled an advanced phased array long range radar system, dubbed the Asr, which has been designed and manufactured by Iranian Navy experts.
Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defence sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.
Tehran established an arms development programme during the Iran-Iraq war in 1980s to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the U.S. and its Western allies.
