Some 56 foreigners trying to cross the border illegally have been detained at the Iranian border checkpoint in the city of Khoy last week , said Khoy's regiment commander of Iran`s Border Service Hasan Muhammadzade said.
The detainees are the citizens of Turkey, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, he said, Iranian IRNA news agency reported.
The detainees were transferred to judicial facilities.
Khoy is located in the north-western of the Iranian province of West Azerbaijan.
