Over a million of Syrian refugees reside in Turkey

Over one million of Syrian refugees currently reside in Turkey, Turkish Anadolu agency quoted the country's Deputy Prime Minister Bashir Atalay as saying on June 4.

Atalay underscored that Turkey has rendered over $4 million worth of aid to the Syrian refugees in its territory.

During the conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, over 150,000 people were killed and over 4.2 million have become refugees in Syrian territory, as well as 2.3 million have fled to neighbouring countries.

The main burden of receiving refugees lay on Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey. The total population of Syria before the conflict amounted to 20 million.
