The issues related to democracy, human rights and the rule of law will be discussed during the visit of the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso to Azerbaijan, the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Malena Mard told reporters on June 12.

She underscored that the relations between Azerbaijan and the EU are very important and the purpose of Barroso's visit is to contribute to more effective continuation of the bilateral relations and to discuss the ways of strengthening and intensifying these relations.

Mard expressed hope that there will be signed agreements with Azerbaijan for a new legal framework during the visit.

She pointed out that it is planned to sign an agreement aimed at further strengthening the political relations between the EU and Azerbaijan, adding that this agreement is expected to be discussed during the visit.

"We hope that these discussions will be completed next month," the head of the EU Delegation said.

Mard went on to add that Azerbaijan is eager to strengthen its relations with the EU.
