Even when things have been most unpleasant, relations between Iran and Azerbaijan continue as they have since the USSR went down, the American writer and political analyst on Middle East, Reuel Marc Gerecht, told Trend Nov. 12.

He was commenting on the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's official visit to Azerbaijan. It should be noted that this is Rouhani's first visit to Azerbaijan as Iran's president.

Gerecht further went on to say that the cross-border trade and travel benefit Iranian Azerbaijanis.

According to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee (SCC), the trade turnover of Azerbaijan with Iran in Jan.-Sept. 2014 stood at $144.045 million.

Meanwhile, in the first nine months of 2014, Azerbaijan imported goods worth $115.6 million, and exported goods worth $28.45 million.
