Municipal elections were held in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov said at a press conference on Dec. 24.
According to him, the observers in all polling stations followed the elections and the counting of votes.
"The elections can be considered valid. Appeals that might harm the election results have not been reported," Panahov said.
At the moment the CEC has received information from the 3509 polling stations of 105 electoral districts that make 70 percent of all stations.
Chairman of CEC head also noted that 3509 protocols has arrived and 1,304,937 ballots have been counted.
According to him, 11,926 leading candidates were defined. Leading candidates of all municipalities in the country will be defined on Wednesday, Panahov said.
Around 15,035 members of 1,607 municipalities should be elected.
The election was conducted on 118 constituencies. The voting took place at 5,015 polling stations. Around 4,887 are permanent and 128 - temporary. The municipal election is not held in seven constituencies situated in the territory occupied by Armenia.
Around 37,077 candidates were registered in the municipal election. Around 13,907 candidates were nominated by eight political parties, namely, New Azerbaijan party, Ana Vatan party, Civil Solidarity Party, Umid party, Azerbaijani Social Democratic Party, National Revival Movement Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party and Boyuk Qurtulus party.
Around 23,061 candidates are self-nominated and 109 candidates were nominated by the initiative groups.
