Azerbaijani blogger Emin Huseynov is hiding from the investigation at the Embassy of Switzerland in Baku, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Every citizen's presumption of innocence is guaranteed according to Azerbaijan's constitution, said Hikmet Hajiyev, the head of the press service of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
He was commenting on the media reports regarding Huseynov.
"The prosecutor general's office launched a criminal case with regard to the Azerbaijani citizen, Emin Huseynov, under the criminal code's articles 192.2.2 (illegal business), 213.2.2 (tax evasion) and 308.2, and arrest was chosen as a measure of restraint in respect of him by a court decision, dated Aug. 19, 2014," Hajiyev said.
He said the investigation discovered that Huseynov, engaging in illegal business activity as a chairman of an unregistered public association called 'Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety', had incomes in particularly large amount of 1,575,956 AZN and evaded paying taxes worth 247,551 AZN.
"Since July 7, 2014, the investigating authorities have repeatedly sent notices to Emin Huseynov, but he hid in the Swiss Embassy in Azerbaijan," Hajiyev said.
"Currently, the Grave Crimes Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office continues the necessary investigation measures," he added.
Earlier, the Swiss television reported that Emin Huseynov has been from August 2014 hiding in the Swiss Embassy in Baku.
