The US must pursue a more accurate, objective and constructive policy with partner countries, including Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Ambassador to US Elin Suleymanov said.

Suleymanov made this statement at a workshop in Washington, dedicated to Azerbaijan, and organized by The Washington Diplomat newspaper, the Azerbaijani embassy in the US said Oct. 8.

He said that the double standards and superficial approach negatively impact the development of the region.

The event was held in the format of an open interview with the Azerbaijani ambassador. The numerous representatives of political, diplomatic and business circles of Washington attended the event.

Suleymanov also addressed the members of the International Club in the capital of Maryland - Annapolis Oct. 7.

While answering the questions of Larry Luxner, the presenter and journalist, at a workshop in Washington, the ambassador stressed that after the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the country passed a long way of development.

The diplomat stressed during both events that the successful implementation of such large-scale projects as the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines upon the initiative of Azerbaijan contribute to the development of not only Azerbaijan, but also other regional countries.

He also informed the participants about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the construction of the Baku International Sea Trade Port and other projects.

Suleymanov informed in detail about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, some documents adopted by the UN Security Council and other international organizations in connection with this conflict. Suleymanov stressed that the conflict is not resolved due to a lack of political will of the Armenian leadership.

Suleymanov also discussed the parliamentary election to be held in Azerbaijan on November 1.

"All conditions were created for the electoral campaign of each candidate," he said. "All measures are taken in the country to conduct the election in transparent and democratic conditions."
