Over 80% of Azerbaijani nationals in UAE vote in referendum

Currently, voter turnout in the referendum on amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution at the polling stations created in the country’s embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and in the Consulate General in Dubai, is more than 85 and 82 percent, respectively, the country’s ambassador to the UAE Dashgin Shikarov told Trend Sept. 26.

Seventy-six Azerbaijani nationals, temporarily or permanently residing in the UAE, were registered at the polling station of the Yasamal constituency #16 in Azerbaijan’s embassy in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, 197 people were registered at the polling station opened in the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Dubai.

The activity of voters is being observed at the both polling stations during the day, the voting is being held transparently and democratically, said the ambassador adding that all the conditions have been created for this purpose.

The referendum to make amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution kicked off at 08:00 and will wrap up at 19:00 (UTC/GMT +4).

The number of voters in Azerbaijan stands at 5,267,111 people, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

As many as 117 international observers – MPs from over 30 countries as well as observers from various international organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) – have been accredited by Azerbaijan’s CEC to observe the referendum.

The total number of the observers is around 53,000.
