Robert Cekuta, as a long-serving member of the US Senior Foreign Service, is expected to continue to serve as ambassador to Azerbaijan, Embassy of the US in Baku said in a message Jan. 6.
“American ambassadors serve at the pleasure of the president of the United States, whose personal representatives they are,” reads the message.
President-elect Donald Trump’s transition staff issued a blanket edict requiring politically appointed ambassadors to leave their overseas posts by Inauguration Day, according to several American diplomats familiar with the plan, The New York Times reported earlier.
