Any foreign company involved in excavations or reconstruction of historical monuments in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia will be added to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s blacklist, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev told reporters in Baku Apr. 18.

The minister added that apart from blacklisting, Azerbaijan will also cease its cooperation with such companies.

“Recently, it has become known that under the pretext of second investigation some of our historical monuments located in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region are being excavated in order to falsify history,” he said.

“Unfortunately, scientists from other countries are sometimes involved in this,” he noted.

He went on to add that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan has already conveyed its concern to UNESCO and ISESCO in this regard.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
