President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said he is pleased to be visiting Azerbaijan, describing Baku as a beautiful city. He noted that the more he learns about Azerbaijan, the more he is interested in the country.

Martin Chungong hailed the fact that representatives of different religions peacefully co-exist in Azerbaijan. He said the Inter-Parliamentary Union is interested in maintaining cooperation with the country. He said he heard only good things of Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of promoting the world`s awareness of these realities.

President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan wants that comprehensive and objective information about the country is spread.

It is important that guests from different countries, including MPs, come to Azerbaijan and see development in the country with their own eyes, he added.

Highlighting the importance of interparliamentary ties, Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan maintains cooperation with parliamentary assemblies of CIS, Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations.

The president noted that this multifaceted cooperation yields good results.

President Ilham Aliyev said that high-level international events and visits organized in Azerbaijan play a special role in building an environment of dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding among peoples and nations.

The head of state said IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong`s visit is a good opportunity for discussing issues relating to cooperation, and expressed confidence that the visit will contribute to the expansion of bilateral relations.
