BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 24. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Federal Institutes of Culture Hadja Lahbib and the delegation led by her, Trend reports citing Azerbaijani MFA.

A one-on-one meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Hadja Lahbib continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both sides.

During the meeting, the sides exchanges views on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belgium in bilateral and multilateral formats, as well as on regional issues. It was noted that in the context of the new realities of the region, there are opportunities for further expansion of relevant cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, trade, alternative energy, high technologies, medicine and pharmaceuticals, etc.

During the discussions, attention was focused on the almost 30-year occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia, the destruction of 9 cities and more than 300 villages, and the policy of ethnic cleansing.

Bayramov informed the Belgian delegation in detail about the current regional situation and realities in the post-conflict period, the normalization of relations with Armenia by Azerbaijan, the signing of a peace treaty, the opening of transport and communications in the region, as well as the efforts made towards the delimitation of the border. He stressed that Armenia demonstrates an unconstructive approach, commits military-political provocations, does not fulfill its obligations, violating the provisions of the Trilateral Declaration, and abuses the Lachin road to continue military and mine threats.

The minister also spoke about the peace agenda initiated by the Azerbaijani side, about the controversial and provocative position of Armenia instead of a constructive approach, and the corresponding efforts of Azerbaijan.

In particular, it was noted that Armenia interferes in every possible way with the reintegration efforts of Armenians living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and spreads false statements regarding the Lachin-Khankendi road. It was noted that residents of Armenia travel daily along the Lachin road, as well as the fact that Azerbaijan offered to use the Agdam-Khankendi road to transport large cargoes to this area.

At the same time, Bayramov drew attention to the fact that some countries have been turning a blind eye to the policy of aggression against Azerbaijan in the region for decades, and also said that the smear campaign against Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period is nothing but political manipulation. In this regard, there was stressed the need to prevent the abuse by Armenia of such international initiatives as the European Union mission in the region.

Bayramov also added that Azerbaijan always stands for coexistence, development and prosperity in conditions of peace and security, within the framework of the country's territorial integrity, and will continue its efforts in this direction.

Later, at a press briefing, the ministers made statements following the meeting and answered journalists' questions.
