BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Residents are suffering from France's nuclear tests, and this has had a serious impact on the environment, serious work should be done to protect the environment, Chairman of the Commission on Education, Youth, and Sports of the Assembly of French Polynesia Heinui Le Caill said, Trend reports.

He made the statement at a conference in the Azerbaijani Parliament on the theme "French Polynesia's right to decolonization: challenges and prospects".

He noted that nuclear tests have contributed to an increase in the incidence of disease among residents. “From France, which conducts nuclear tests, we demanded the fulfillment of its obligations. They conducted nuclear tests on our territories using military force; we did not consent to this,” Le Caill added.

He emphasized that since 1985, 910 million euros have been spent to treat people affected by radiation, but more than half of these people have died.

“France does not provide us with any support in this. France conducted nuclear tests on our territories in 1966, when nuclear weapons were first tested in these territories, with 100,000 people living here, so as not to endanger its population, and we were sacrificed,” Le Caill added.
