Political parties, election blocs and 18 non-governmental organizations will joint their efforts in a mass rally scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

The participants of the event will gather together at the 20 yanvar (January 20) metro station, at 5:00 pm, march to the building of the State Cinema Archive (former Galaba cinema), with the meeting itself to start at the Galaba square, according to Isgandar Hamidov, the former interior minister during the rule of the late president Abulfaz Elchibay.

Hamidov, one of the organizers of the event, also added that the organizing committee for the rally had send a corresponding request to the Baku City Executive Power, but no response had followed so far.

Hamidov also added that the march-meeting would be held at a high level. “Serious preparatory work nin underway in the run up to the event,” he said.

The organizers expect 10,000 people to join the event. But the turnout may exceed expectations, as the crowds of the protestors will likely be expanded by supporters of the Yeni Siyasat (YeS) election bloc, as well as Liberal and Umid parties, with the participants expected to demand from the authorities the setting up of proper conditions for free elections, democratization of election environment, equal conditions for all candidates, and the approval of changes in the membership of electoral commissions and electoral legislation.
