KAZAKHSTAN TO USE AZERBAIJANI MODEL IN IMPLEMENTATION OF EITI

Kazakhstan is eager to use the Azerbaijani model in the implementation of an Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI), Samir Shartifov, the Executive Director of the SOFAZ, the head of the governmental commission on EITI, said on Tuesday to a news conference dedicated to results of his recent visit to Kazakhstan.

According to Sharifov, the visit was paid at the instruction of the Azerbaijani President and at the invitation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan. Noting the meetings with the officials of the Kazakh Finances Ministry Sharifov underlined that he informed them about the history and current state of implementation of EITI in Azerbaijan, on the role and participation of the state bodies, companies and civil society in this process.

Sharifov also demonstrated the Kazakh publications which covered his visit. He read out a statement by Vladimir Shkolnik, the Kazakh Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources: "We decided accepted your business scheme, as Azerbaijan today is only country which moves in this direction. We move forward using your experience."

The head of the commission underlined that Kazakhstan is eager to carry out an initiative not only in the oil and gas sector but also in other spheres of extractive industry, in particular metal production.
