REASONS FOR DETENTION OF UKRAINIAN CITIZEN STILL UNKNOWN

“The reasons for arrest of a Ukrainian citizens by the employees of the Azerbaijani Border Service and the National Security Ministry of Azerbaijan, are unknown, as the relevant Azerbaijani bodies do not submit necessary documents grounding their step,” Igor Kizima., the charge d’affaires of Ukraine to Azerbaijan, told Trend.

He was commenting on the arrest of an activist of Pora, also an adviser at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Yevgeniy Yevtushenko, who arrived in Azerbaijan at the invitation of the opposition party Musavat on Thursday at Heydar Aliyev airport.

According to the diplomat, within a long time the Ukrainian consul in Azerbaijan failed to set up links with the arrested, while only at 1:00pm he could see him and talk on the state.

The embassy is waiting for clarification from the Azerbaijani side, the diplomat underscored. Besides, Andrey Popov, a citizen of Estonia, detained with Yevtushenko, was released, Kizima added.

Yevtushenko and Popov had been invited to Baku for participation in an international conference on the situation in Azerbaijan and Belorus due on 17 September. Two more activities of Pora were delayed, while after were allowed to enter the country. However, passports of Yevtushenko and Popov were withdrawn.
