NEXT ROUND OF 5-LATERAL TALKS ON CASPIAN STATUS DUE

A meeting of the working group on the development of a Convention on the Caspian legal status was scheduled for 6 October 2005, Tahir Tagizada, the head of the Information Department of the Foreign Ministry, told Trend.

The 18th meeting to take place in Baku will continue the consultations on closing the positions on the sea status. Initially, the talks were scheduled for late August, while it was adjourned due to irrelevance in the schedule of experts. The meeting will be held with the deputy ministers of Caspian littoral countries вЂ" Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.

In particular, the experts continue work the ecological problems, coordinate draft field agreement on the utilization and protection of biological resources, on hydro-metrology, sea and military shipment. Khalaf Khalafov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, also the special representative of the President in the Caspian status definition, will represent Azerbaijan in the talks.
