RALLY OF “BUILDERS OF CIVIL SOCIETY” BLOCK TOOK PLACE

The rally of the “Builders of the Civil Society” election alliance scheduled for 16.00 p.m. on 24 September 2005 started a half an hour later. The ground for this is the lateness of one of the leaders, the chairman of the National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (NDPA) Iskender Hamidov, Trend reports.

The NDPA deputy chairman Shamsaddin Ragimli noted in his speech the facts of violations of the Election Code and the rights of the candidates on the spots. Addressing the rally the chairman of the “Free Azerbaijan Party” (FAP) Hasan Hasanov underlined, “we must not admit fraud and falsification of elections”.

The deputy chairman of the Musavat Party Rauf Arifoglu taking part in the rally said, “We must say “no!” to the authorities, unite our efforts and start the struggle with the authorities”. He also invited the participants of the today’s action to join the ranks of the unauthorized action scheduled for 25 September by the Azadlig block on the Djafar Djabbarli Square.

Hamidov noted in his speech that he would not admit any fraud and falsifications of the elections. He also called on the government to resign.

The rally went peacefully. According to the NDPA deputy chairman Bakir Hasanbeyli over 10,000 people took part in the action. According to the police officers the number of participants was 300 people.
