“IF AUTHORITIES DO NOT SANCTION RALLIES, �AZADLIG’ BLOC WILL HOLD ACTIONS EVERY WEEK,” ALI KARIMLI

Ali Karimli, the co-chairman of the 'Azadlig' bloc, also chairman of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party (PFAP) hold a news conference after the unsanctioned action organized by the bloc on Sunday, Trend reports. Karimli noted that he had a telephone conversation with Rino Harnish, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, where the latter expressed concerns in regard to possible use of force during the mass actions. The same time Karimli said to Harnish that the oppositionists were against any violence.

According to Karimli, then Harnish talked with Ramiz Mehdiyev, the head of the President’s Apparat, and said that the authorities and the opposition should have consultations to prevent confrontation during the actions. Ali Hassanov, the head of the Public-Political Division of the President’s Apparat, phoned Fuad Mustafayev, deputy chairman of the PFAP,
at Mehdiyev’s instructions and informed him about readiness to dialogue.

Karimli also touched upon the action of the �Azadlig’ bloc and the meting between the authorities and the opposition on Sunday. According to Karimli, around 100 oppositionists were arrested and beaten. Several candidates of the bloc were detained by the police despite their immunity. Besides, the car of Isa Gambar, the chairman of the Musavat Party, was subjected to attack, Hassan Karimov, the deputy chairman of the PFAP, was injured. Karimli stressed that if the authorities did not accept the routes proposed by the �Azadlig’ bloc, they would hold actions in the center of Baku every week. According to Karimli, they plan to hold actions in the regions Gazakh, Tovuz, Goranboy, Aghstafa, Shamkir, Ganja from 1 to 3 October.
