LEADERS OF DELEGATIONS FROM AZERBAIJAN, ARMENIA AND GEORGIA MET WITH PACE PRESIDENT RENE VAN DER LINDEN

Leaders of delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia met with the PACE President Rene van der Linden on 4 October 2005. The chairman of the Azerbaijan’s parliamentary delegation Samed Seyidov noted, that three issues were mostly discussed today: the elections in Azerbaijan, the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the expiration of the period for the commitments fulfillment for Georgia. The works done in this respect, as well as the existing problems were discussed. Linden noted, that the elections to be held in Azerbaijan are of great interest for PACE. He also noted, that the number of the PACE representatives, who will hold monitoring at the elections will be increased.

He noted, voting on the Constitution of Armenia needs to be held in conformity with the rules of the Council of Europe. According to him, the time for Georgia to

fulfill the commitments expired and he noted, it is to be done in time. In this regard, the registration was positively accepted in all organizations. В"Discussions on holding rallies took place and me, as the leader of the delegation noted, the government of Azerbaijan does its utmost for the meetings to be peaceful and in the framework of the law.

Some forces are interested the situation becomes heated. It was said in the end, Azerbaijan should contact with PACE and act jointly for resolving of the arising problems. The second issue was naturally connected with Nagorny Karabakh. I told the PACE chairman, that the most important thing for us is implementation of issues specified in the resolution adopted”, Seyidov said.
