HEAD OF AZERBAIJAN FM SPOKE AT UNESCO SESSION

The Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister (FM) Elmar Mammadyarov spoke at the 33-d session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, the press center of the Azerbaijan’s FM told Trend.

His speech concerned mostly the educational needs of children, refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He reported in detail on the crushed and destructed cultural objects on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and the necessity to liquidate the material and cultural costs. The Minister also informed on the joint projects with UNESCO in regard to the improvement of the Azerbaijan’s educational system.

The Minister also met with the UNESCO Director General Koitiro Matsuura. Mammadyarov appreciated highly the cooperation of the sides in the field of material and non-material heritage and stressed the necessity for extending it.

He underlined the interestedness of Azerbaijan in protection of the Architectural Complex “Icheri Shaher” (Inner City), the soonest enrolling of the Gobustan reserve and the Girkan woods in the World Heritage list. Koitiro Matsuura in his turn voiced the interest of UNESCO in holding reforms in the Azerbaijan’s educational sphere.
