Application of marking paint is possible in Azerbaijan during the forthcoming parliamentary elections. However, the Azerbaijan’s government chose more civilized way, the head of the social and political department of the President’s Executive Office Ali Hasanov said in a statement on 14 October 2005, Trend reports.

According to him, the government of Azerbaijan is the supporter of using the mechanisms tested in Europe and envisaged in modern societies. В"Therefore, we have chosen more civil methods than marking of fingers. Besides, the main issue is availability of will. The Azerbaijan’s government demonstrated its will in holding democratic elections”, Hasanov stressed.

The official from the President’s office voiced his attitude to 4 proposals in regard to elections by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). From the 4 proposals we accepted 3 and voiced our attitude to them. The last proposal is connected with the subject of the law and we have nothing to do with it, as less than 20 days remain before the elections day”, Hasanov said.

According to him, the PACE demand to introduce changes and supplements to the Election Code within such a short period of time before the elections is aimed at violation of elections. В"The repeated raising the issue of supplements and changes to the Elections Code by PACE means to violate elections indirectly. It is possible to hold democratic elections with the current Election Code and the international institutions stated it many a time. We consider, the will of the government in this respect is known and we will hold democratic elections”, Hasanov underlined.

He noted, all conditions will be created for ensuring democratic elections. В"Let the observers monitor the whole process of transparency till the end; in case they find any faults we will discuss the subject and hold a dialogue, Hasanov said.
