The chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) Rasul Guliyev was detained by the local law-enforcement bodies on 17 October 2005 at 17.00 of Baku time in Simferopol (Ukraine), the first DPA deputy Serdar Djalaloglu toldTrend.
According to him, the airplane on which Guliyev was going to return in Baku, was not allowed to land at the Baku airport, therefore he landed in Simferopol. There he has been detained by the law enforcement bodies.
According to Djalaloglu, detention of the DPA chairman is illegal, as he received political asylum in the USA. В"It contradicts the international conventions. Therefore, we hold negotiations at the moment with the diplomatic mission, as well as the government of Ukraine. We also applied to the Ukrainian Embassy to Azerbaijan”, he reported.
