“At present Rasul Guliyev, the chairman of the oppositional Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP), is kept as an arrested’,” Andrey Dombrovskiy, the head of the head of the Public Relations Center of the Interior Ministry in Krim Autonomous Republic, told Trend.

According to Dombrovskiy, the Center has received documents from the Ukrainian Interior Ministry and a verdict issued by the Azerbaijani court on the maintenance of Guliyev under custody, which sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Dombrovskiy noted that prior to the court session, which is intended to consider the documents, the status of arrested’ laid on Rasul Guliyev will be maintained.

“Only the Court can make a sentence on arrest or release of the convicted. If Rasul Guliyev is arrested, the issue linked with his extradition will be resolved,” the head of the Public Relations Center of the Interior Ministry underlined. In accordance with Azerbaijani Ukrainian legislation, the trial in the court is to start within 3 days of arrest. “So, the hearings on the case can start on Tuesday,” he emphasized.

In respect to the arrival of an investigation group of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, Dombrovskiy said that as of 12.30pm [Baku time] no representative of the Azerbaijani law-enforcement bodies had arrived in Simferopol.

In the end the head of the Public Relations Center of the Interior Ministry noted that in compliance with the Ukrainian legislation minimal term of extradition from Ukraine is 40 days. “However, the term can be cut,” Dombrovskiy said.
