Ban on monitoring of elections by NGOs removed

The Milli Majlis (Parliament) injected changes to the bill on nongovernmental organizations at the meeting held on Friday. In his remarks, MP Gulamhusseyn Alibayli reported that nobody must hinder holding of monitoring by NGOs during the elections, Trend reports. “If we seek democratic and transparent elections, we must ensure participation of NGOs in the process. We should inject changes to the bill in time,” he said.

MP Nizamy Khudiyev noted that discussion of the issue at the Parliament was not late. “The presidential decree signed on 25 October and recommendations sent to the Parliament concerning NGOs were opportunely,” he underlined.

Other MPs also noted that injection of changes to the bill was demand of the time. It was adopted by majority. In accordance with the changes, the ban on observation of elections by the NGOs with 30% of foreign fund in statutory capital was removed.
