50 young lawyers will consult complainants at parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan

Briefing of representatives of the Legal Initiative in Central Europe and Euro-Asia Organization of the American Bar Association (ABA-CEELI) was held in Baku on 2 November, at which they jointly with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the names of the regions to the group of the training program “Lawyer of the Elections day” participants, in which they will be engaged on the 6 November parliamentary elections.

It should be noted, 8 trainings for 150 young lawyers of Azerbaijan were held in October under the support of ABA/CEELI, in the framework of which the lawyers were given comprehensive information on procedures for appliance of the physical entities to the Central Election Committee (CEC) and court bodies by facts of violations of the Election Code.

The American Ambassador to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish addressing the ceremony evaluated highly the role of ABA/CEELI in assisting to hold the legal reforms
in Azerbaijan. The diplomat called “very important” the work of the lawyers in the period of holding the parliamentary elections and said, the lawyers will continue their activities in the regions during two weeks after the voting.

For the reporting period roundtables involving 50 judges were also held at the initiative of ABA/CEELI.

It should be also noted, that starting with the mid-August ABA/CEELI opened the �hot line’, by means of which any citizen could receive comprehensive information on the steps to remove problems, related to preparations to the parliamentary elections in the country.
