Results of parliamentary elections and reforms in defense sector in focus of NATO Sec-Gen’s special envoy

Robert Simons, the special envoy of the NATO �s Secretary General in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, intends to study some issues linked with the frauds and irregularities of the Elections Code of Azerbaijan during the 6 November parliamentary elections, Trend reports.

Simons, who arrived in Baku on Friday tonight, plans to hold meetings with the Azerbaijani officials, attend a meeting of the commission of cooperation with NATO, as well as a ceremony of opening of the project �Saloglu’, implemented in Agstafa District of Azerbaijan by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA). “NATO has received negative information on the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, while the steps taken by the country’s leadership after the polling day were accepted as normal,” Simons said.

The same time the NATO official noted the Alliance’s readiness to render support with respect to achieve the soonest cleansing of the territory of Agstafa District from mines and shells. Simons said that he was also going to center on reforming the defense sector of Azerbaijan.

During the talks in Baku it is also planned to discuss issues linked with the placement of the NATO’s peacemaking forces in the zone of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
