Rene van der Linden: PACE to give comprehensive assessment of parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan shortly

Speaking at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers, a directive body of the Council of Europe (CE) the chairman of the CE Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Rene van der Linden touched upon the issue of the recent parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, Trend reports citing the CE Secretariat.

The PACE chairman reminded, by the preliminary assessment of the PACE delegation within the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) International Monitoring mission, the CE democratic principles have not been observed to a full extent. However, he noted, his appraisal is based on the conclusion of the CE Monitoring group leader Leo Platvoet. В"I underlined at the pre-election stage that the 6 November elections will be a “test” for the democracy development in Azerbaijan and I still adhere to this standpoint”, the PACE chairman said.

According to Linden, the Parliamentary Assembly will give comprehensive assessment of the 6 November elections soon.
