Elmira Ahundova : Well-known Russian scholar to visit Azerbaijan at invitation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation

A member of the Russias writers Union and the journalists Union, professor Rudolf Nikolaevitsch Ivanov, the author of the book Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the lie, will stay in Azerbaijan from 10 to 15 January 2006 at the invitation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Professor Ivanov is engaged in studying and recreating of real historic facts, including those dedicated to the history of the prominent figures of the Azerbaijans historical past, the dynasty of the Azerbaijani military commanders and the Nakhchivan khans Huseyn khan Nakhchivanski, Ismail khan Nakhchivanski and Kelbali khan Nakhchivanski, the Azerbaijan Milli Mejlis deputy, the Honored journalist of Azerbaijan Elmira Ahundova told Trend.

According to Ahundova, a television film Bayzet dedicated to the tragic episode of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and shot by the novel of Valentin Pikul, who, as Ahundova noted, was not always careful with the historical facts, was demonstrated by the Russian TV. However, the film authors moved away from the historical realities even more. And mostly distorted were the characters of the fortress defenders of the Moslem origin, she stressed.

Soon after the film release a large article by Rudolf Ivanov entitled Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the fiction appeared in the Russian Nezavisimaya gazeta newspaper, in which the author depicted the true and real characters of the heroes and the fortress defenders, among which was also the colonel Ismail khan Nakhchivanski. According to Ahundova, contrary to the version of the film creators, the Russian scholar specifies the colonel Ismail khan Nakhchivanski as courageous and the most honest army officer, thanks to the courage and selflessness of which the surrender of the fortress was in many respects prevented. According to the studies of Ivanov, Ismail khan was honored with high awards of the Russian Empire.

According to Ahundova, having continued his researches Ivanov wrote a book Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the lie, in which he told on feats and heroic deeds of the Azerbaijanis, created remarkable portraits of Kelbali-khan and Ismail-khan Nakhichivanski.

In the opinion of Ahundova, the significance of the activities carried out by the Russian scientist, cannot be overestimated. His works drew attention of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation president, the Milli Mejlis deputy Mehriban Aliyeva, who invited the Russian writer and historian to Baku. В"Rudolf Nikolaevitch accepted the invitation by Mehriban-hanum with big inspiration and is eager to meet the city of his youth, where he once studied at the high naval school, the deputy underlined.

In the view of the deputy, it is very important to cultivate the feeling of the proud for the national history, especially the history related to the military past.

The main objective of the scholars trip to Azerbaijan is meeting with the Azerbaijani intelligentsia, scientists, exchange of views on the periods of the Azerbaijani history he is interested in, collecting of documentary materials on the Nakhichivanski dynasty, about whom he is going to write a novel. In the framework of his stay in Baku the Russian historian plans to hold presentation of his book Defense of Bayzet: the truth and the lie at the Baku Slavonic University, to have meeting at the Union of writers, the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, to meet with book publishers and visit the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Rudolf Ivanov is the author of 23 books and about 200 articles, among which the works on history of the imperial Russia and Caucasus occupy an outstanding place.
